Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Your 3-day gorilla trekking experience in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park a bio diverse location. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in the south western part of Uganda and the park covers about 33.7 square kilo meters at high altitude range. It is about 10 km south of Kisoro and also boarded by the virunga ranges and the virunga national park in the Drc and the volcanoes national park in Rwanda to the south.
Mgahinga national park covers the forest northern slopes of the virunga volcanoes with the 3 volcanoes of Muhavura at a height of 4127 M, Mount Gahinga at 3474 and mount sabinyo at 3645 m. Mgahinga National Park also lies between an altitude of 2227 m to 4127 m and the 3 virunga conservation area covers 434 square kilometers
The park is home to about 76 mammals such as elephants, Buffalos, giant forest hog, bushbucks and the rare cats such as the leopard, hyena’s duikers and a number of butter flies
It’s also home to the mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys that have become an interesting primate species to tourists
The birds in the park are about 76 different bird species have been recorded and for the virunga conservation area has over 290 bird species.
While in the park we can engage in Gorilla Tracking, Golden Monkey Tracking, Bird Watching, Batwa Cultural Trial, Mountain Climbing / Virunga Volcanoes, Nature Walks/Hiking and Canoeing on Lake Mutanda.
Day 1 Transfer from Entebbe or Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Travel time from Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla Park NP is 9 to 10 hours

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After your early morning breakfast at the hotel or pick up from the airport depending on arrival you may transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla Park. We shall make a stopover for lunch before reaching the lodge in the evening. We shall continue on our way to the park through the serene rolling plains and we may make a stopover at the equator.
We book you accommodation from your choice in a range of budget, midrange and luxury lodges and or hotels.
Day 2 Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Accommodation: Budget: Tourist Hotel or Mucha Hotel, Midrange: Travellers Rest, Luxury: Mount Gahinga Lodge
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After your early morning breakfast, you shall head to the briefing point to meet the park ranger guides. You will start the trek to track the giant gorillas which may take about 3 to 4 hours or less, we shall come face to face with the humble giants, you will observe the gorillas for 1 hour a life memorable experience.
Mgahinga is home to the endangered giant mountain gorillas. Did you know part of the Virunga volcanoes located between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. Mgahinga Gorilla Park has one big habituated gorilla family unlike Bwindi which has more sectors and groups. After your trek you will walk back to the vistor center and drive back to our lodge for leisure.
Please note, gorilla trekking can take 1 to 4 hours and when we came across the gorillas we observe them for one hour and later return to the park center to receive our certificates.
You will either have packed lunch or lunch at the lodge
Day 3 Transfer from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to Kampala/Entebbe with a Stopover at the Equator
Travel time from Mgahinga to Kampala is 9 to 10 hours drive
Meal Plan: Breakfast & Lunch
After your morning breakfast we shall drive towards Kampala/Entebbe through Uganda’s serene environment and rolling plains and country side. We will have a stopover for lunch in Mbarara town, a stop shall also be made at the Equator for the equator experience and souvenirs buying if you wish to. We shall then drive to Entebbe winding up your 3-day gorilla trekking experience in Uganda.

General Tips on your Gorilla safari:
- Health is key all trekkers as its key to have your safari and trek the gorillas in a heath condition. Usually clients with infectious diseases like flu are not allowed to track reason being it can easily affect the endangered gorillas.
- The age limit for gorilla tracking is 15 years and above.
- Booking of your gorilla and chimpanzee permits is done in advance in order for you not to miss out on the experience when permits are fully booked.
- A porter can be hired in case you want to be carried for trekking, bags. For the trekking porter or helper, a fee of US$ 15 is charged
- Your flash must be off during photography.
- The recommended distance between clients and gorillas is important for safety
- While hear we may engage in a boat canoe experience on Lake Mutanda
- Forest or nature walks are recommended
What to bring on your safari:
- Rubber Boots, trousers and rain gears or rain coats and cloth gloves
- Mosquito repellent.
- Sun screen
- Drinking during the trekking experience
