The shoe bill is a peace full rare massive bird that can stand still for a while, one prime place to observe these birds. The wetland is located along the northern shores of Lake Victoria near Entebbe town. There are over 260 species of birds at Mabamba Marsh swamp
How to get to the wetland, a ferry transports you from Entebbe crossing Nakiwogo Landing site and it’s a famous point for pied Kingfishers, both the ride and drive to Mabamba Marsh will take 45 minutes’. It’s from that point that we can hire a boat for the excursion.

Birding on water at Mabamba Swamp
Mabamba Swamp is the best place to observe the Shoebill storks. The bird with its shoe like bill is exciting to birders. It is a solitary bird with a shoe like bill with clapping sounds out of it. The Shoebill’s lifespan is 25 years. Other bird species in the swamp such as: African Marsh Harrier, Papyrus Gonolek, House Sparrow, Weyn’s Weaver, Fork-tailed Drongo, Feral Pigeon, Flappet Lark, Long-Crested Eagle, Stripped Kingfisher, Black Headed Gonolek, Ruppell’s Long-tailed Sterling, White-shouldered Tit, Sand Martin, Brown Snake-Eagle, Eurasian Hobby, Grosbeak Weaver, Blue-headed Coucal Grey-Headed Sparrow, Yellow Wagtail, African Pied Wagtail, Pied King Fisher, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Yellow Billed Stork, Tawny Eagle, Carruther’s Cisticola, Ross’s Turaco, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Ashy Flycatcher, Rufous-napped Lark, , White-faced Whistling-duck, Fulvous Whistling-duck, Goliath Heron and the African jacana Common Stonechat, Common Greenshank, Little bee-eater, Whinchat, Grey Wagtail, Great Blue Turaco, Grassland Pipit, Orange Weaver, Northern Brown-throated Weaver, Tawny-flanked Prinia, Black-headed weaver, Slender-billed Weaver, Yellow-backed Weaver and so much more.

Travel time from Kampala or Entebbe to the peer is 1 hour to the peer or set off landing site and a few minute’s drive when in Entebbe
Cruise time on your mabamba boat excursion is
You will be picked up early morning by your guide from either Kampala or Entebbe with a transfer to the peer or landing site in Entebbe. And while here you will be welcomed by the canoe/boat personnel, you will then embark on a motorized canoe and head for your birding safari for the shoe bill stork blended with other bird species that make sounds praising the lord. Other bird species include, white whistling billed duck, African fish eagle, Madagascar bee eater, hamerkop, malachite kingfisher and the Angola swallow among others.
The experience is about 2 to 3 hours
After your excursion you will return to mainland while sighting more birds back to the point of origin and have lunch with a drop-off at the hotel or your residence in either Entebbe or Kampala.
