The wetland is located along the northern shores of Lake Victoria near Entebbe town. It is home to over 260 species of birds at Mabamba swamp

Mabamba Swamp is home to a number of shoebill storks and one and best spot for Shoebill storks. Its bill is more like in the shape of a shoe, it’s a unique bird species that every tourist would like to see. The shoe bill is a solitary bird with a unique bill with clapping sounds that come out of it. The Shoebill’s lifespan is 25 years.

While on this excursion you shall spot a number of bird species such as king pied king fishers that are sighted in large numbers

Mbamba swamp is about 15 km west of Entebbe and the swamp extends across from the shallow, marshy bay on the northern shore of Lake Victoria and the excursions at mabamba are guided locally by the people at the shores. While on your excursion you shall be able to spot a number of bird species like the pied king fisher, pygmy goose, lesser jacana, white winged warbler, blue breasted bee eater and the gull billed tern among others.

Entebbe and Mabamba lies at least 40 km apart by road

How to get to the wetland

We use a ferry from Entebbe at Nakiwogo Landing site to Mabamba swamp.

The second route is along Masaka Road 30 km from Kampala through buyege hence it’s shortly before Mpigi town to kasanje

Travel from Entebbe takes about 45 minutes to Mabamba wetland
