1 Day Behind the Scenes Entebbe Zoo
Catch an amazing experience in some of the animal enclosures with the zoo keepers.
UWEC zoo in Entebbe also popularly known as Entebbe Zoo was opened in 1952 by the colonial government in Uganda, as a reception Centre for wild animals that were found as casualties.
Entebbe Zoo is on the edge of Lake Victoria, rich vegetation, home to a range of birds, butterflies and other indigenous animals make it an attractive venue for education as well as a pleasing one for those who visit, whether Ugandans or people from overseas. The zoo also sits on 70 hectares of land with a natural pristine forest and vegetation cover.
Animals to see at the Entebbe Zoo include lions, 2- Chettahs, African cape buffalos, and Giraffees, White Rhinos, Leopard, seval cats, jackal, water bucks, the rare bush duiker on free range, warthogs, donkeys, impala, zebras, hyenas, spotted hyenas, the chimps at the zoo man-made island, primates such as baboons. On free range we may come across the patas monkeys, Black and white colobus monkeys, De brazza monkeys, African Elephant, Statunga, Eland, Long horned cow. Reptiles such as the African Rock Python, cobra, Gabon viper, crocodiles, tortoise among others.
A number of bird’s species like the fastest bird on land (ostrich), crown crested crane, unique shoe bill, African fish eagle, owl, parrots, peacock. Pied king fishers are often found at the chimp exhibit, Cattle birds. Other birds on free range include Egyptian goose, cattle egret, harmerkop,Pied king fisher, marabou stocks, cascade hornbills, eagles, bee eaters among others.

Entebbe zoo participates in a number of roles such as conservation and research, animal rescues and outreach programs.
Uwec zoo in Entebbe has a number of animals that give you a memorable experience on your visit to Uganda. And it also gives you an overview of some of the animals you can find in Uganda.Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake by area as well as the largest tropical lake in the world with 68,800 km2 (26,600 square miles), Lake Victoria is the world’s second largest fresh water lake by surface area, after Lake Superior. The area that Uganda occupies is 31,000 km2 with a number of fish species like the Nile Perch and Nile tilapia.
The lake was renamed after Queen Victoria by the explorer John Hanning Speke. In terms of volume Lake Victoria is also the world’s ninth largest lake containing about 2,424 cubic kilometers of water and its shared by three countries with a maximum depth of 80 to 84 meters.
Day 1 Behind the Scenes Entebbe Zoo
Meal Plan: Lunch
You will be picked early morning by 8:00 am from your residence or hotel in either Entebbe or Kampala with a transfer to Uganda wildlife zoo.
You shall check in with a brief by the zoo keepers before you actually embark on your experience.
The animals to pet and feed are told to us during the experience, these may include rhinos, cheetahs, cats like lions, giraffes, elephants and the chimps and it’s upon the zoo management to inform you about the animals to experience while on your visit.
After you’re the main behind the scenes experience in some of the animal enclosures you will have a walk through the zoo sighting a number of animals in their respective enclosures. You may also sight a number of birds and monkeys on free range.
Photographs will make this trip more interesting and memorable.
After this experience you will have a mouthwatering lunch in one of the restaurants around the zoo and later have a brief visit to the markets of Entebbe. You will then be dropped off at your respective area of stay in either Entebbe or Kampala.
